At 10 this evening, the film Battleship Potemkin will be projected on to the front of a huge communist-era apartment building in Prager Strasse, Dresden, while the Dresdner Sinfoniker and Pet Shop Boys will accompany it with their original music for the film, performing on balconies above. The conductor Jonathan Stockhammer will direct the orchestra from a crane in front of the building.
The event was conceived by Sven Helbig, co-founder of the Dresdner Sinfoniker, as part of the 800th anniversary celebrations of the city of Dresden. All ten thousand tickets for the event have been sold.
This will be the seventh performance of Battleship Potemkin. On July 29, Pet Shop Boys and the Dresdner Sinfoniker will perform the work in Segovia, Spain.
